This position within the Albany Police Department will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide specialized assistance to individuals in crisis. Caseworkers play a crucial role in supporting and stabilizing community members, ensuring that they receive appropriate care and resources. This position works with police officers and community partners to provide case management services to support victims and families dealing with violence, homicides, mental health, family issues, domestic violence, homelessness, and other related crises.  

This position involves responsibility for maintaining order and providing security in public buildings, schools and courtrooms. Persons employed in this class shall have all the powers of a peace officer, as set forth in section 2.20 of Criminal Procedure Law, when performing the duties of protecting property or persons on such premises. The work is performed under general supervision of the Police Chief. The incumbent does related work as required.

The work consists of managing and leading departmental initiatives in various health and wellness areas. The position will further the department’s EAP and peer-to-peer network as well as develop new pathways for mental, physical and overall wellness. This is a director position that reports to the Police Commander who oversees Health and Wellness on behalf of the Chief of Police.
